The Prague Summer Schools are intensive one-week courses accompanied by cultural and social events. 

Students from all over the world can choose from 4 courses in different fields. For practitioners, we offer intensive training, with a modified program due to the different needs of professional participants. 

Participants gain valuable knowledge, focusing on current issues and modern trends, but also have fun in a multicultural environment. All courses run simultaneously in July, and so participants can choose to participate in one of the courses only. 

However, outside the classes, the participants mingle with other participants at cultural events.

Fees

The program fee for early-bird applications until March 1st: EUR 840

The program fee for students who submit their applications after March 1st: EUR 890

NOTE: Please send us a confirmation of payment on email pss@scholaempirica.org after you pay the fee 

The program fee covers:

  • Tuition and reading materials
  • Accommodation in twin rooms for one week
  • The half-board which includes breakfasts, lunches and coffee breaks
  • Site visits, social program, and cultural and special events (e.g. welcome drink, boat tour on the Vltava river, tours of Prague by a tour guide and local homeless and farewell dinner).

The program fee does not cover:

Students are responsible for their travel to Prague, dinners, and personal expenses. 

★The individual deadlines for the receipt of payment will be stated in the official letter of acceptance. Payment plans can be arranged. The final deadline for receiving payments is the 1st of May.

Scholarships

Is it possible to get a scholarship for attending Prague Summer Schools?

Unfortunately, as a non-profit organisation, we are not able to provide students with financial aid. Nonetheless, we do encourage students to explore funding opportunities available through their home universities, non-governmental organisations and government sources. A good place to start the search is www.scholarshipportal.com

When is the application deadline?

The early bird deadline is March 1st – Students who apply by this date will be eligible for a reduced program fee. 

The final deadline is May 1st –  Although there are application deadlines, students are accepted on a rolling basis. 

Early bird applicants will receive preference in admission decisions. Late applicants run the risk of finding the program of their choice full. In order to allow time to carefully review all student application materials, an email notifying the application status to Prague Summer Schools will be sent to applicants approximately 14 days after the application is received.

Who can apply?

PSS are open to students (both undergraduate and graduate level), recent graduates or students interested in the field who wish to deepen or broaden their knowledge in a specific field.

Students admitted to Prague Summer Schools are welcome to participate fully in the program by attending all classes, lectures and social events.

How are participants selected?

Each application is individually assessed based on the information provided in the CV and cover letter. The Admissions Committee focuses on educational background, interests and motivation.

Participants will be selected according to the following criteria:

  • Educational Background (Year, Grade Point Average and Area of Study)
  • Statement of Purpose / motivation
  • Sufficient level of English (certificates are not necessary) 

Up to 30 students will be admitted to every program of Prague Summer School. We intend to restrict the class size to ensure interactive courses and discussions.

Communication

Due to the high number of applicants, expect the response withing 5 days. 

If you haven´t received the confirmation or rejection within 5 days after your application, please first check the spam in your mail. If you are still missing an answer or have any other problems please contact pss@scholaempirica.org. If you need an answer within one or two days please name the subject of the email “URGENT”. 

Accommodation

What and where is the accommodation?

The accommodation cost included in the program fee is intended for twin room occupancy. People are assigned to rooms based on gender.

Standard fee includes a shared room with shared bathrooms. 

If interested, students can pay extra for a single room with a private bathroom. 

The student hotels are within a 25 minute by tram distance from the summer school venue and the nearest tram stop is about a 2-minute walk from the venue. You will be in the historical centre in 15 minutes by tram. 

Check In, Check Out

When is the check-in and check out?

from July 4th (check-in day) to July 11th (check out day), at our partner hotels. 

What if I want to arrive before check-in day/leave after check-out? 

If interested, students can pay extra for the days before and after the actual event. Let us know by email.

What if I don’t want an accommodation? 

You can book your own accommodation and get a discount on the original program cost. Contact us. 

Are you able to satisfy dietary requirements? 

We can provide vegetarian, gluten-free, and meals without the most common allergens. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a full vegan diet. 

Where is the summer school venue/registration?

Registration is held at the accommodation, and classes are held at the xPORT campus (address: Jeseniova 208, Prague 3, 130 00). 

Accommodation is located 25 minutes by tram from the venue, registration for the summer schools and check in in the hotel are held in different locations. Selected guest lectures may be held in a different location.

Will I receive a certificate after completing the summer school?

Yes, students do receive a certificate of attendance and participation on the final day of the summer school, stating their successful completion of the program.

Will I be awarded ECTS for attending the summer school?

Many students in the past have counted our summer schools towards their degrees, usually receiving 3-4 ECTS. However, it is up to student  university consideration if the study at Prague Summer schools will gain you some credits and sole responsibility of the students to fulfil the requirements of their home university. 

We will be pleased to provide our alumni with any kind of supporting materials required by their home academic institution.

Language

What is the language of Prague Summer Schools?

The language of lectures, as well as all related events, is English. Where necessary, the translation from/to English is provided.

Do I need to speak Czech?

No, all communication before and during the summer schools is in English.

Do I need a visa to travel to the Czech Republic?

Countries require visas individually based on national law. EU citizens do not need visas to Czech Republic. For more information consult the web pages of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Czech Embassy in your country.

Visas

Will the organisation arrange my visa?

No, the organisation is not responsible for arranging visas for students but will be glad to provide students with a support/invitation letter if needed.

Can I get a refund after I have paid the program fee? 

We offer a 100% refund of the received program fee, excluding international transfer fees, for any cancellation before the 31st of May.

Cancellations between the 31st of May and the 15th of June are refunded for 90% of the received program fee, as the hotels charge a booking cancellation fee.

No refund can be made for cancellations after the 15th of June.
